I switched from Windows to Linux in 2006, and used exclusively Ubuntu until, idunno, maybe four years ago. In all that time, I never had a good experience upgrading from one version to the next. I always had to do a clean install, so after a while I mostly stopped trying upgrading, but still did try one more time somewhere close to the end of that period, I think. Same outcome.

Now I just did my second upgrade of Linux, based on Fedora, and it seems to have worked fine!

The only problem I've noticed so far (I upgraded a few hours ago) is that three finger gestures has stopped working. I know that's important to some, but I never use it. And I saw one other mentioning issues with that after install, so I don't really think it's a problem with upgrading. Though I don't know.

Still, I would not really recommend to newbies, though. You should know a little bit about Linux (I only know a little myself) before using this, IMO.

@forteller Never had any issue upgrading from one Fedora release to the next.

@forteller I upgraded Fedora two versions in one sitting last autumn. Went without a hiccup. 😁

@forteller Fedora has historically been really good about updating to newer releases. Ubuntu has been better the last few releases.

@forteller Yeah, I had a lot of issues too in the older versions. I think my first one was 9.10, although I briefly used 7 something. It has gotten a lot better though. I no longer use it as my main OS -- I switched to Debian -- but I have several VMs with Ubuntu, and it was the main OS at my last job.

@forteller I’ve gone through quite a few rounds of #fedora #linux upgrades. They’ve all been hassle-free.

@forteller @packardmoose same. Most of my upgrade issues have been related to nvidia display drivers, rather than fedora itself.

@forteller@tutoteket.no Fedora in general handles upgrades well from what I can determine. I've upgraded from 36->37->38 so far without issue. I like the concept of Nobara but unfortunately it does not support SecureBoot so I won't use it. Hopefully support is added at some point so I can try it out.
