Finally!
Finally I've found a Linux application to see my photos on a map! And it's beautiful, and simple, and under active development.
And it's even supposed to be able to detect faces, but that process is so slow, and can't be paused and restarted later, so I'm not sure how well it works yet.
But oh my, so far I'm very happy with #Fotema. https://github.com/blissd/fotema
@forteller I didn't know you were looking for one. This has been possible with digiKam for at least 10 years.
https://www.digikam.org/
Face recognition has also been available for a long time.
You may want to try it unless the KDE brand is a showstopper for you.
@forteller Takk for tipset!
@forteller Immich also has a map view for your photos
@forteller there are also other options. E.g. geotagging, digikam, or KGeoTag
@forteller Thanks for sharing! I was looking for a GTK4 app just like that to steal its UI from
@forteller I'm just wondering how to it works with thousands photos
@arek Well, I have about 25k photos in my collection, and the only thing it's struggling with is the face detection. But that too works, just really slowly.
@forteller I struggle to find a proper foss app for viewing my photos. XnView is one which can handle my heavy RAW files, but unfortunately is freeware...
@forteller As a side note: Nextcloud Maps also has this type of functionality: https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/maps
