tutoteket.no is one of the many independent Mastodon servers you can use to participate in the fediverse.
Tutoteket er ein liten server med liten plass, men vi har lesestoff og god drikke, så vi klarar oss.

@GrapheneOS I think both apps are shit as *both #Telegram and @signalapp demand #PII in the form of #PhoneNumbers.

OFC Telegram is (by my personal observation) almost exclusively being used by #Scammers and other #TechIlliterate criminals.

This week has been pretty busy at work. Hopefully it has resulted in absolutely awesome results!

✨ Cold start up time for Element X Android has significantly improved from 3-4sec to 100-150ms for accounts with 1000, 2000 or even 4000 rooms (≈30x speed up). That’s awesome! ✨

I’ll explain tomorrow how we did that. Async Rust and immutable data types simply rock.

turns out you *can* get Windows 95 to talk to a modern samba server, add these lines to your [global] section in smb.conf:

## Allow Windows 95 to connect ##
# Allow the insecure v1 protocol
ntlm auth = ntlmv1-permitted
# Allow the very old LANMAN1 protocol, used e.g. by OS/2 or DOS.
server min protocol = LANMAN1
# Also allow the authentication protocols used by LANMAN1. Even allow plaintext auth.
lanman auth = Yes
client lanman auth = Yes
#client plaintext auth = Yes

and ta-da, Network Neighborhood is back, baby!

it even sees the Windows 11 machine, but it... can not interact

note: you do not want this (or anything retro) on an untrusted network

my Windows 95 OSR2 works without plaintext auth, but if you're using something older you might need that?

working as of samba 4.13.13 on debian bullseye, the old protocols have been known to bitrot and may just get removed at some point who knows

file bug reports if it doesn't work 🙃

What mastodon client do you use on iOS? If you use a different one please reply (oh and if you can please tell me why you use what you use okie thanks bye :blobcatkissheart: )

I’m looking into using some client. Curious on what people use here and why

Just bought the Android Fedilab app by @apps for Mastodon. Really impressed with how feature rich the client is, multiple accounts support, great customization for themes, and so much more I have yet to experience.

I have kind of underestimated the importance of Apps. They are after all the lens through which users experience and see the Fediverse.

Thanks for this, and happy to support the development. Please consider adding a monthly supporter option.

Idea for paid fediverse apps, like @ivory and @apps: Set aside a small amount of the price and give that money to the hosts of the servers your users are using.

This obviously means you will need to collect data about which servers are being used with your clients, which should be opt-in. Still the same percentage should be set aside for this from all sales, and divided among the servers used by those who opt in.
